LOGAN — A 55-year-old convicted sex-offender has been arrested for allegedly downloading child pornography at his Hyde Park home, according to law enforcement. Justin Edward Hamm was booked Wednesday, July 10, into the Cache County Jail after deputies served a warrant to his residence, finding several electronic devices and four firearms.
According to the arrest affidavit, Cache County Sheriff’s deputies received a cyber-tip from the Utah Attorney General’s Office in May, claiming an individual in Cache Valley was uploading child pornography through a file sharing program. The photos were of young girls, between 4 and 14-years-old. The victims were naked and in one instance, shown being raped by an adult male.
Deputies tracked the photos to a computer IP address inside Hamm’s home. They also learned he was on the sex-offender registry and federal probation, after being convicted on child pornography charges in West Virginia, Nov. 15, 2017.
Wednesday, deputies raided Hamm’s residence, locating numerous electronics that were turned over to a forensic technician. They also found four guns above the garage ceiling, hidden within the insulation.
According to jail records, Hamm was booked on suspicion of seven counts of sexual exploitation of a minor and four counts of possession of a dangerous weapon by a restricted person, all second-degree felonies. He is being held temporarily without bail, pending arraignment on formal charges in Logan’s 1st District Court.
Individuals arrested and charged in complaints are presumed innocent unless or until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in court.
