HYRUM — A 26-year-old man was killed in a head-on crash involving two motorcycles in Blacksmith Fork Canyon on Saturday night.

According to emergency radio traffic, the motorcyclist was traveling eastbound on SR-101 east of Hyrum while a second motorcyclist was heading westbound at 8:30 p.m.

Utah Highway Patrol troopers reported that the driver of the eastbound motorcycle was traveling at a high rate of speed. For an unknown reason, the driver crossed the center line and struck the westbound motorcycle leg-to-leg.

Both drivers were thrown from their bikes.

The driver of eastbound motorcycle, a 26-year-old man, died on the scene, while the driver of the westbound motorcycle, a 27-year-old man, received non-life-threatening injuries.

The identities of the motorcyclists have not been released, pending notification of family. Troopers are continuing to investigate the cause of the crash.
