LOGAN – A new report indicates Utah State University’s Air Force ROTC cadets boast the third highest GPA of all detachments across the country.
Lt. Col. Richard Reed is the new department head for Aerospace Studies, which includes the Air Force ROTC program.
”It’s not me, it’s the cadets,” Lt. Col. Reed said. “They do an incredible job and we push them as cadre members to do the best they can because that’s what the military is all about, is competing. GPA is one of the things they have to compete at to be able get the career and the job that they want in the Air Force.”
Lt. Col. Reed said cadets who graduate after the four-year program are commissioned as second lieutenants and can be assigned globally or in the U.S.
”They will have a four-year minimum, upwards to 10-12 years minimum for being a pilot and going forward like myself you can go all the way up to 30 years, if you keep getting promoted and doing the things the Air Force needs you to do, you can have an entire career.”
Utah State’s Air Force ROTC program currently has 140 cadets enrolled.
USU is home to two ROTC programs, or the Reserve Officers’ Training Corps. The Air Force ROTC shares the Military Science Building on campus with the U.S. Army ROTC.
