ABC/Lou RoccoThis is it — the moment when Gloria Estefan guest stars on the Netflix comedy One Day at a Time.

The show, a re-imagining of the hit ’70s sitcom of the same name, follows three generations of a Cuban-American family: Penelope Alvarez, a newly single mom; her two teens, Alex and Elena; and her old-school mother, Lydia.  Gloria sings the show’s theme song but she’ll finally appear during its upcoming third season.

“So excited to announce that I’ll finally be guest starring on @odaatnetflix,” Gloria wrote on Instagram. “I’ll be playing Mirtha, Lydia’s baby sister and arch-nemesis. I’m coming for you, Alvarez family!”

Entertainment legend Rita Moreno, who plays Lydia, responded to the news by tweeting, “CAN NOT WAIT!”  As Vulture points out, Gloria is 60 and Rita is 86, though she looks younger. Even so, that’s quite an age gap between sisters but we assume all will be explained when the third season of One Day at a Time airs next year.

A few years ago, Gloria made a memorable guest appearance on Fox’s Glee, as the mother of Naya Rivera’s character, Santana Lopez.  In addition, she’s appeared in the movies Music of the Heart and For Love or Country: The Arturo Sandoval Story.
