January 23, 1938 ~ November 20, 2019 – (age 81)

Glenda Swann Swainston passed away peacefully the morning of Wednesday, November 20, 2019 holding the hand of her sweetheart.

Glenda was born on January 23, 1938 in Banida, Idaho to Alexander and Anna Swann. She grew up in Banida and graduated from Preston High School in 1956. She attended the Hollywood School of Cosmetology in Salt Lake City. She was able to do hair for her family and friends throughout her life.

She married Paul Campbell Swainston on October 21, 1960 in the Logan Temple. They brought seven children into the world. She has been blessed with 19 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. They were the light of her life. She loved to give grandma hugs.

Glenda was a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She served faithfully in the Relief Society presidency, Young Women’s organization, Primary, Cub Scouts and as the ward librarian. The highlight of her church service was as a temple worker in the Logan Temple for nearly 10 years.

Glenda loved to sing. She sang with a performing group in Idaho Falls in her early twenties. After moving to Preston, she helped organize The Village Voices and sang with them for many years. She loved to sing in the ward choir and started singing in ward choirs at age 12.

Glenda had many talents. She created amazing cakes. The grandkids loved to give her a challenge to create cakes of many shapes for their birthdays. She was an excellent seamstress. She used that talent as the costume director at the Worm Creek Opera House. She spent hours designing and creating just the right costumes for each show. Her costumes have been used in shows throughout the valley. She learned to knit from her sweetheart and loved to knit for others. She knitted baby hats to give to the hospital and created blankets and sweaters for those she loved. Glenda loved to throw a party. The more the merrier and bring on the dishes. She loved being surrounded by friends and family. She had a way of making everyone feel important. She especially appreciated the visits from family and friends this last month.

Glenda is survived by her sweetheart, Paul Swainston, their children, Alex (Anita), Blaine (Barbie), Paul Jay (Teresa), Kellie Freestone (Matt), Sylvia Setterberg (Carlos), Curtis (Talesha) and 18 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters Verna Hale, Elsie Briscoe, Opal Watkins and her brother Reed Swann.
