May 19, 1931 – June 1, 2023 (age 92)

George John Mavridis, 92, of Brigham City, Utah, passed away June 1, 2023 after a short illness. George is survived by his daughter Melina, granddaughter Chelsea and great grandson Maverick. He is also survived by his sister, Mary Havnoonian, and 5 nephews.

George was born in Lansdale, Pennsylvania and later moved to Philadelphia. George worked in a luncheonette as a child, spent time in California fighting forest fires as a teenager. He enlisted in the Air Force toward the end of WWII, was stationed in Germany, trained in the European Command Signal School, Radio Repair Division. Toward the end of his service, he and fellow Airmen purchased a small plane. All of them enjoyed flying along the shores of South Carolina while on leave.

George met his future wife Elly, a native of Greece, while looking for a Greek condolence card in a nearby drugstore. They married in 1957 and spent 51 years together. George and Elly moved to Utah in 1960 so George could begin work as a technical writer for Thiokol Chemical Corporation. The move was quite a transition for both, but soon found themselves part of a warm community they ultimately considered home.
George loved reading, almost as much as he loved sharing his knowledge and observations.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in his name to the Brigham City (Carnegie) Library.
