LOGAN — Family and friends are mourning the loss of Garrett Benjamin Dutcher, 41, and Meredith Maughan Dutcher, 42, for their shared passion for the performing arts and community service. The Logan couple were found deceased Dec. 22 along Valley View Highway, SR-30, after allegedly leaving a note with specific instructions regarding what family members should do with the couple’s vehicle and personal property, leading investigators to believe the departure was planned.
The couple, who married in 2008 in Nauvoo, Illinois, were active participants in Utah’s theater community, appearing together in productions at the Heritage Theatre in Perry and CenterPoint Theatre in Centerville.
Garrett Dutcher, a Viewmont High School graduate and Eagle Scout, worked as a precision machinist at Duckworth’s Inc., contributing to aerospace and religious projects. He was remembered by family as a gifted storyteller and photographer who served a mission in Denmark.
Meredith Dutcher, also a Viewmont graduate, earned a degree in theater arts from Southern Utah University. A talented seamstress and costume designer, she worked at The Logo Shop in Logan and was dedicated to sustainable gardening and period-accurate clothing design. She served a mission in Independence, Missouri.
The family expressed gratitude to the Logan City Police Department, Cache County Sheriff’s Office, and the individuals who assisted authorities after the couple’s passing.
Separate services will be held on Saturday, Jan. 10:
Meredith Dutcher: Viewing at 9 a.m. followed by a 10 a.m. funeral at Russon Brothers Mortuary in Farmington.
Garrett Dutcher: Funeral service at 2 p.m. at Russon Mortuary in Bountiful.
