LOGAN – The Fraternal Order of Eagles (FOE) is inviting the community for Foodie Friday on August 2, an evening of great food, community, and support for a local charity.
This time FOE is raising funds for Jump the Moon Foundation, a local nonprofit art studio for people with different abilities.
They are making Mississippi Pot Roast sandwiches with chipotle potato salad. The cost is $8 a plate. All proceeds will go to Jump the Moon, a place that uses art to help people.
“The Eagles is so much more than a bar,” said Shannon Mullineaux, a member of the organization and organizer of this weekend’s charity. “We play bingo, have pool tournaments and the money we raise goes to a selected charity once a month.”
This is Mullineaux’s second fundraiser. She raised money for a family with a baby that needed operations and other medical intervention.
“We raised some money for that baby,” she said. “I can’t tell how much we raised. The amount we raise depends on the need and the help we get from the public.”
Once a month they find a charity, non-profit or family that needs a boost and they donate to that cause.
“I am the mother of three autistic children, and I take them to Jump the Moon studio so they can create art,” she said. “Michael (Bingham) is amazing; he can navigate kids with different abilities and keep everyone’s attention while he teaches them how to make art.”
People drop in, off the street and he gets them involved in creating art, she said.
“He also goes into nursing homes, works with veterans and other organizations to help them create and appreciate art,” Mullineaux said. “Just show up. They will serve who turns up. When they run out of food they will close the doors.”
Bingham has used his talents to help others create art for over 14 years. He has a gallery at his Jump the Moon location at 48 North 100 West in Logan. One of Bingham’s works is a suspended astronaut statue out front, which makes it easy to find.
Bingham has a gallery with framed artwork for sale from artists who participate in his studio.
