BOISE – Governor Brad Little formally presented the 2023 Governor’s Cup Scholarships at the Capitol in Boise on Tuesday. This year’s fundraising efforts surpassed expectations, enabling the distribution of 39 scholarships to outstanding individuals throughout the state, including two in Franklin County. Among the recipients, Colette Larsen and Kambree Broadhead received special recognition for their academic achievements.
The Idaho Governor’s Cup Scholarship Fund Inc.’s 13-member board of directors selected the recipients from a pool of over 3,000 applicants. Each applicant was evaluated based on their exceptional dedication to public service, academic excellence, leadership qualities, and involvement within their communities. It was a rigorous process to ensure that the most deserving students were chosen. Furthermore, the recipients must enroll in an Idaho college or university, fostering a commitment to the local educational system.
Larsen, a student at West Side High School, has been granted the opportunity to pursue her higher education at Idaho State University. Broadhead, a student from Preston High School, has been honored as the lone recipient of the prestigious Cecil D. Andrus Excellence in Education Scholarship. Broadhead will be attending Brigham Young University–Idaho.
The Academic Scholarship, renewable for up to four years, awards $5,000 per year. This financial support ensures that recipients can focus on their studies during their educational journey. Additionally, the Career-Technical Education Scholarship provides $3,000 per year for two to three years, depending on the duration of the program, offering substantial assistance to individuals pursuing vocational and technical education.
The Governor’s Cup Scholarships recognize accomplished students from high schools across Idaho who have plans to attend Idaho State University, University of Idaho, College of Idaho, Brigham Young University-Idaho, Boise State University, College of Southern Idaho, College of Eastern Idaho, College of Western Idaho, and North Idaho College.

“Additionally, we would like to express appreciation for the generous sponsors and donors who contributed to the scholarship program last year. Providing opportunities for these students has always been at the heart of the Governor’s Cup, and our ability to continue that legacy is important.”
To honor the recipients, the Governor and First Lady hosted a reception at the Capitol in Boise on Tuesday, June 20th. The event celebrated the accomplishments of the students and highlighted the significance of the Governor’s Cup Scholarship program.
The 2023 Idaho Governor’s Cup annual fundraising event will return to Sun Valley from September 7-9, 2023. The continued support from numerous donors ensures the scholarship fund’s ability to serve and empower more students in the upcoming year.
