SALT LAKE CITY — Becky Edwards who unsuccessfully challenged Senator Mike Lee in the Republican primary in 2022 is back with an announcement of a Utah-based Political Action Committee (PAC) that is called the Governing Group.

On KVNU’s For the People program on Tuesday, she talked about what it aims to do.

“I’m excited because it’s going to be an entity that brings resources to candidates who have an approach that is policy-based, pragmatic, solutions-oriented.  We’re going to bring resources like finances, and also boots-on-the-ground volunteers,” Edwards explained.

On top of that, she said, will be the capacity to enter personal questions and concerns, whether that’s in-depth details about how you logistically run a campaign.

But also challenges that people may be facing that they don’t have another opportunity to ask these things to.

“Challenges, questions and issues about ‘how do you build coalitions, how do you collaborate with people of different ideas?’  These are all things that become barriers I think for candidates, preventing especially women from running for office. We want to debunk those myths, tear down barriers and provide resources so that we get good people running for office.”

Edwards said the overall objective is to shape and mold a political environment in Utah that consistently emphasizes principle-based outcomes, leaves behind political partisanship that is so destructive, and moves toward collaborative government.

She said these are old-school solutions that are being seen less and less.
