Former Cache County GOP party chair Shellie Giddings.

LOGAN — Do the national political parties call the shots when it comes to local political parties?

State lawmakers had a conversation with journalists recently concerning national parties telling county party officials what they can and cannot do, even if it does not reflect on what’s going on locally or what’s best for candidates in an election year.

Former Cache G.O.P.party chair Shellie Giddings was on a recent KVNU For the People and she was asked if that was her experience.

“We had to what was best for our county, and that was my job was to make sure we were doing what was best for the county. On a national level, I didn’t have anybody telling me what to do,” Giddings said.

She said that was even the case on the state level. Giddings sand now that she’s not a party chair she gets to help out on campaigns, which she really enjoys.

“It’s fun. It is so fun. So I had a friend approach me and say ‘hey we want you to help with this particular campaign’, and so, I have been.  It’s been really busy, because by the time the filing period ended, until the special convention it’s two weeks. And so, it’s just been go, go, go, but I have been loving it. I love campaigns.”

In a special election held  on June 28th, local Republicans selected David Benson to serve as Clerk/Auditor of Cache County and more council races are coming up later this year.
