BOX ELDER COUNTY — Firefighters expected to have the Tangent Fire completely contained Thursday night. The wildfire burned approximately 473 acres northwest of the Great Salt Lake, in the West Desert.

Utah Fire Info reported Thursday afternoon that the fire was 90 percent contained. Officials expected to have the fire completely contained by nightfall.

The wildfire had burned along Tangent Peak, on state, private and Bureau of Land Management – Utah lands. It was first reported Monday, July 15.

Tuesday, the US Forest Service said fire activity was “light to moderate,” with no big changes. The fire is suspected to have been sparked by lightening.  

During the past several days, 75 firefighters worked the fire. That included 2 helitack crews, four engines, a dozer and grader, according to Utah Fire Info.

No injuries, evacuations or closures were reported.
