Barn fully engulfed in flames near 1500 South 1600 West Nibley, Sept. 30, 2023.
NIBLEY — Firefighters were called to a two-alarm fire Saturday night that destroyed two barns and damaged several nearby trailers. The fire was reported just after 8 p.m. near 1500 South 1600 West in Nibley.
Cache County Fire Marshal Jason Winn said when firefighters arrived on the scene one of the barns was fully engulfed in flames.

“We had crews that were hooking into hydrants and getting water lines down to the barn,” explained Winn. “We ended up calling a second alarm and had roughly 40 firefighters on scene.”
The fire spread to a second barn nearby and ignited a propane tank, causing a large explosion.
Winn said firefighters were able to keep the fire from spreading to any other structures and nearby homes.
“Fire crews were able to save another out building, as well as a fifth-wheel trailer and there were no injuries reported,” Winn stated.
Residents to the north said the fire occurred right as a storm-front moved in, bringing strong gusting winds. The lights inside their home flickered momentarily and then they started seeing smoke coming from the barn.

Cache County Sheriff’s deputies confirmed a power line near the barn was blown down.
Winn said investigators will be looking to see if the downed power line was the cause of the fire or if there was another factor.
“It is a good possibility that we are looking at downed power lines as one of the causes due to the wind and all of that. We’re going to have to look at all of it.”
Deputies reported firefighters were also able to rescue a dog from one of the trailers near the fire.
