COVID-19 antigen test

LOGAN – In addition to nine new COVID deaths listed in the Utah Department of Health (UDOH) Wednesday report, there have been been 198 new positive coronavirus cases detected in Utah since Tuesday. That marks four straight days with fewer than 200 cases.

Among the nine new deaths are two women from northern Utah, a Box Elder county resident, 65-84 years of age who was hospitalized at the time of death and a Cache County resident between 45-64 years of age.

UDOH reports almost 4,500 Utahns have lost  their lives to the coronavirus over the 24 months of the pandemic.

In Utah’s three northern counties there have been 231 coronavirus deaths.

Since the start of the pandemic in March, 2020, Utah’s total of coronavirus cases has grown to 925,089.

There were 3,256 Utahns tested since Tuesday and now almost five million have been tested while nearly 9.3 million total tests have been administered the last 24 months.

Utah’s new rolling seven-day average for positive tests two months ago was 8,975 a day; it is 226 a day today.

The new seven-day rolling average for percent positivity of “people over people” is 8.2 percent and the rolling seven-day average for percent positivity of “tests over tests” 5.2 percent.

The number of Utahns fully vaccinated is over 1.98 million, which is over 61 percent of the state’s total population. Only 27 percent of Utahns have received a booster dose. UDOH data indicates booster shots decrease the chances of dying of COVID-19.

As of Wednesday 228 patients are hospitalized in Utah with the coronavirus; that is 10 fewer than were reported Tuesday. With 36 of those patients in intensive care units, that is down 14 from the Tuesday report. Currently, almost 69 percent of Utah’s ICU beds are filled.

There have been 33,571 Utahns hospitalized with the virus during the pandemic.
