LOGAN – A community workshop for local residents interested in bird-watching has been slated on Wednesday, Oct. 23 at the Logan Library.

That meeting will be held at 6 p.m. in Community Room B of the library, hosted by Eric Bingham of the Bridgerland Audubon Society.

“Whether new to birding or looking to sharpen your skills,” Bingham says, “this interactive workshop is a great place to start your journey into the avian world.”

One of the topics discussed during the workshop will be how to participate the upcoming Christmas Bird Count.

The Christmas Bird Count (CBC) is a census of birds in the western hemisphere, performed annually in the early northern-hemisphere winter by volunteer birdwatchers and administered by the National Audubon Society.

The census is a citizen science project that involves counting birds in a 15-mile-wide circle over the course of a 24-hour period. The CBC is one of the world’s oldest and longest-running wildlife censuses and is a valuable source of data for bird scientists and conservation efforts.

During the local workshop, Bingham will also be prepared to address typical questions like “Is a Merlin a bird or a phone app?,” “How do I get stated as a birdwatcher?,” and “What binoculars should I use?”.

“If you are interested in or like bird-watching,” Bingham adds, “this free community workshop is for you. All ages are welcome.”

The Bridgerland Audubon Society (BAS) is an all-volunteer 501(c)(3) nonprofit charitable conservation organization and an official chapter of the National Audubon Society.

The Logan Library is located at 285 North Main Street in Logan.
