BOX ELDER COUNTY — Several Garland residents were temporarily evacuated from their homes after a gas leak was reported. The leak occurred Thursday night in the Bear Hollow Community.

The Garland Fire Department reported the gas leak was “significant” and led to homes being evacuated as a precaution and the gas being shutoff.

Firefighters said entrances at the front and back of the community were closed for emergency operations. As of 8 p.m. Thursday, the entrances were opened again and evacuations were lifted.

Officials did not specify how many homes were evacuated.

The cause of the gas leak has not been released yet.

The fire department expressed appreciation to Enbridge Gas for their “quick work,” fixing the leak.

Deputies from the Box Elder County Sheriff’s Office also assisted firefighters in keeping people out of the area until the evacuation was lifted.
