May 6, 1937 ~ February 3, 2023 (age 85)
Our beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, Elizabeth E. Vigil Cumins, returned home to her Father in Heaven on February 3, 2023. Elizabeth was born on May 6, 1937, in Red Wing, Colorado, to Ruby Gonzales and Benardo Vigil. On July 3, 1956, she married her sweetheart, James Calvin Cumins, in Pueblo, Colorado – a union of 66 years that would bring 3 children, 7 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, and so many adventures along the way.
Over the course of her life, they would move from Colorado to Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Brigham City, Utah, and Corpus Christi, Texas, before finally settling back in Brigham City to be near to her parents and several siblings.
Elizabeth was always in motion and could never stay still for long. Whether it was gardening, cooking, painting, sewing, building, or crafting – she was always busy with a hobby or a project. She was wise, but always had a mischievous glimmer in her eye and could have you laughing in seconds, whether from her clever quips or her dancing and singing.
Elizabeth always said that the most important thing to her was her family, and it was clear to see that she was the happiest when she was surrounded by those she loved and who loved her. She was the most caring wife, mother, and grandmother, and had a heart of gold that she extended to everyone. Her love and her example were a beacon for all who met her.
She was baptized, alongside her husband, as members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on June 30, 2015. Even before joining the church, she fulfilled assignments in Visiting Teaching and the Decorating Committee.
Elizabeth leaves behind her loving husband, James Calvin Cumins, her children: Gwendolyn Eve McClellan (Roger), Marilyn Milburn (Bruce), and James Doyle Cumins (Annette); her siblings: Henry Vigil, Samuel Vigil, and her half-sister, Susan Thorsted; as well as grandchildren: Stephanie Martin (Anthony), Matthew Hemby (Priscilla), Eve Spiekerman, Ema Cumins, Zeke Cumins, Caleb Cumins, Gracie Cumins; and great-grandchildren: Daniel and Gregory Martin and Michael and Ammon Hemby.
She is reunited in heaven with her parents, Ruby Wight (William) and Benardo Vigil; and siblings: Jose L. Vigil, Angelo Delfino Vigil, Fermin A. Vigil, Levy Vigil, Eugene Vigil, Margaret Ellen Molenaar, and Johnnie Vigil.
The family would like to express their sincere and heartfelt appreciation to all those who have taken care of and loved our Elizabeth, with a special thanks to Dr. John Markeson and his staff, Community Nursing Services, and Bristol Hospice.
