It’s not all PSL and protein cold foam fun at Starbucks, as the coffee giant has announced plans to permanently shutter dozens of New York City locations as part of its recently announced restructuring.

As the Seattle-based coffee chain works to downsize nationwide, 34 locations across New York City’s five boroughs are set to close, the New York Times first reported.

After a broad review of the company’s sluggish sales in recent years, CEO Brian Niccol announced a $1 billion restructuring plan in a memo Tuesday that would include 900 employee layoffs across North America and store closures amounting to nearly 1% decline in total Starbucks North America locations.

“During the review, we identified coffeehouses where we’re unable to create the physical environment our customers and partners expect, or where we don’t see a path to financial performance, and these locations will be closed,” Niccol said.

He added that while the company has made “good progress, there is much more to do to build a better, stronger, and more resilient Starbucks.”

In New York, the closures hit some high-traffic corners in Manhattan — like 34th Street, University Place and Columbus Avenue — as well as several Brooklyn shops, from Atlantic Avenue to Hoyt Street. Queens also loses out, with stores in Astoria and Long Island City among those slated to close.
