LOGAN – A Cache County man between 65 and 84 years of age is one of the 19 new COVID-19 deaths reported Wednesday by the Utah Department of Health (UDOH).

There have been 4,436 COVID deaths in Utah with 225 of them in Cache, Box Elder and Rich counties. Today’s death is the 102nd in Cache County while there have been 120 in Box Elder County and three in Rich County.

UDOH detected 461 new positive cases across the state since Tuesday, leaving Utah’s new rolling seven-day average for positive tests at 405 a day. School-aged children account for 45 of today’s announced total cases.

There have been 923,591 positive cases in Utah since the start of the pandemic.

In Utah there are 306 people hospitalized with COVID-19, eight fewer than reported Tuesday, with 63 patients in intensive care, seven fewer than Tuesday. State officials report almost 71 percent of Utah’s ICU beds are occupied.

There have been 33,326 hospitalizations in Utah since the start of the pandemic.

The number of Utahns fully vaccinated is 1.98 million, 61 percent of Utah’s population. There were 2,434 people vaccinated statewide since Tuesday and over 4.95 million vaccines have been administered since the start of the pandemic.

With 3,882 Utahns tested since Tuesday there are now over 4.9 million people who have been tested and more than 9.2 million total tests have been administered the last 24 months.

UDOH reports that in the last 28 days people who are unvaccinated are at 13.7 times greater risk of dying from COVID-19, 6.4 times greater risk of being hospitalized due to COVID-19 and 2.4 times greater risk of testing positive for COVID-19 than boosted people.

The new seven-day rolling average for percent positivity of “people over people” is 13.2 percent while the rolling seven-day average for percent positivity of “tests over tests” is 7.9 percent.

Idaho’s Wednesday COVID update indicates 4,763 coronavirus deaths and the new total of confirmed COVID-19 cases is 427,738 statewide. New case counts in the three southeast Idaho counties include 2,329 total positives in Franklin County, 903 in Bear Lake County and 792 in Oneida County.
