(LOS ANGELES) — 1950s Hollywood heartthrob and gay icon Tab Hunter died Sunday at Cottage Hospital in Santa Barbara, California from a blood clot that caused cardiac arrest.
Allan Glaser, Hunter’s partner of 35 years, confirmed his passing to ABC News, calling Hunter’s death “sudden and unexpected.” The former actor was 86.
Born Arthur Andrew Kelm, the Damn Yankees! star, long rumored to be gay, came out in in 2005 autobiography, Tab Hunter Confidential: The Making of a Movie Star, in which he also revealed an affair with Psycho actor Anthony Perkins.
That affair will be examined in the upcoming J.J. Abrams-Zachary Quinto produced film, Tab & Tony, which is based on Hunter’s memoir.
