August 2, 1941 – March 16, 2023 (age 81)

Dale Ensign Swan, 81, of Hyrum, Utah returned peacefully to his heavenly home on March 16, 2023 after a long battle with dementia.

He was born August 2, 1941 in Rupert, Idaho to Ralph Ensign and Millie Eleanor Bateman Swan. The youngest of four, he became the baby brother to Owen, Gary, and Karleen.

Dale grew up on a farm in Rupert, Idaho. He played basketball and softball and participated in the All-Church Basketball Tournament. He graduated from Minico High School in 1959.

Dale played basketball on scholarship at Carbon College in Price, Utah for two years. He served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints to Hawaii from 1961-1963.

At USU he met Lyn Griffiths on a blind date. They married September 8, 1965 in the Logan Temple. Dale began teaching Math and coaching football at Declo High School. He graduated from USU in 1969.

In 1973 Dale moved to Hyrum, Utah to teach math and coach — first at South Cache Jr. High and later at Mountain Crest High School. Dale’s passion for tennis grew as he taught his children to play the sport. For 21 years he coached both boys and girls tennis at Mountain Crest High School, creating many lasting friendships. He retired in 2004.

A life-long member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Dale served in many capacities, including Bishopric member, High Councilor, Sunday School teacher, and as a Temple Ordinance Worker for 10 years. One of the highlights of his life was serving with Lyn as a senior missionary couple in Zambia, Africa 2005-2007.

Dale is survived by his wife, Lyn, daughters, Kerry (Shaun Peck), Kim (Rob Davidson), Shara (Darroll Young), and his sons, Brandon (Shara Doolittle), Travis (Stacey Sessions), Bryan (Anna Iverson), and Kameron (Angela Osterlin), his sister, Karleen Kelso, 33 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, and grandson, Brendan Dale Peck.

A viewing will be held Thursday, March 23 from 6-8 pm at the Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 E. Center St. Logan.

Funeral services will be held Friday, March 24, 2023 at 12 Noon at the Hyrum Stake Center, 200 E 595 S, Hyrum with a viewing preceding the services from 10:30-11:30 a.m.
