Under the direction of conductor Dr. Craig Jessop, the American Festival Chorus & Orchestra perform at a recent concert.

WELLSVILLE-Dr. Craig Jessop will be speaking at the Wellsville Stake Center on Tuesday Aug. 29 at 6 p.m. as part of Founders Day Celebration. The Wellsville Stake Center is located at 30 South Center.

Jessop will speak about the musical history of Cache Valley. He is a well sought after speaker at events across the state.

The Cache Valley native is the founder and director of the American Festival Chorus and the past musical director of the Tabernacle Choir and Orchestra at Temple Square in Salt Lake City.

The retired Lt. Colonel in the U.S. Air Force is the Musical Director of the National Memorial Day Choral Festival at the Kennedy Center and was the first dean of the USU Caine College of the Arts from 2010 to 2018.

Dr. Jessop has a Bachelor of Science from Utah State University, 1973; Master of Arts from Brigham Young University, 1976; and a Doctor of Musical Arts in Conducting from Stanford University, 1980.

In 2014. Jessop received the 2014 Governor’s Mansion Performing Artist Award bestowed by Governor Gary Herbert, Governor of the State of Utah.

In 2013 he was honored with the prestigious Madeleine Award for distinguished service to the Arts and Humanities by the Madeleine Arts and Humanities Council and in 2012 he was awarded the Utah National Guard’s Minuteman Award for service to the State of Utah.
