The family bluegrass band The Petersens will perform at 2 p.m. Saturday during the 12th Annual Cowboy Rendezvous at the Cache County Events Center in Logan. The band includes siblings Katie, Ellen, Matt and Julianne Petersen; parents Karen and Jon Petersen; and family friend Emmet Franz.

CACHE COUNTY – In western music circles, the headlining entertainers at this weekend’s 12th Annual Cache Valley Cowboy Rendezvous are big names.

Those circles might not have the same glitz and glamour as the current country-western scene, but there’s no comparison when it comes to authenticity.

The 2022 reunion of cowboy poets, western singers/musicians and genuine Old West cultural artisans is slated for Friday through Sunday at Cache County Events Center in Logan.

The event’s top-billed performers are western troubadour Dave Stamey and the family band The Petersens.

Stamey’s background includes stints as a cowboy, a mule packer and a dude wrangler, but he prefers his current life as one of the most popular Western entertainers working today.

The award-winning musician has performed for audiences in 23 states and is a 2016 inductee into the Western Music Hall of Fame.

Stamey’s numerous honors include being voted the Western Music Association’s Entertainer of the Year seven times; its Male Performer of the Year seven times; and its Songwriter of the Year five times.

True West Magazine named Stamey as its Best Living Western Solo Musician in four consecutive years and he has also received the Will Rogers Award from the Academy of Western Artists.

Stamey will perform at 7 p.m. on March 12, along with Canadian songstress Eli Barsi and Yankee cowboy poet Mark Munzert.

Earlier that day, The Petersens will take to the main stage at the rendezvous. They are a family bluegrass band that is one of the hottest acts now performing in the music mecca of Branson, MO.

The band includes siblings Katie, Ellen, Matt and Julianne Petersen; parents Karen and Jon Petersen; and family friend Emmet Franz.

Although The Petersens international fame is derived from their YouTube channel (where they have 600,000 subscribers and 130 million views), the band has also done multiple tours here in the North America and overseas in Ireland and Finland,

The Petersens will perform with the duo Manystrings & Co. and teenage cowboy poets Thatch Elmer and Colt Blankman.

The rendezvous will also feature open mic amateur musical and poetry performances; a cowboy poetry contest; a family dance with a western-swing contest; a light buffet dinner; and a western-themed church service on Sunday morning.

The rendezvous’ educational outreach program is also now exposing Cache County schoolchildren to high quality western music and poetry enrichment this week through a grant from the Sorenson Legacy Foundation.

While many of the rendezvous’ events are free to the public, event organizer Dale Major says that tickets to the featured concerts and dances can be obtained at www.cvcowboy.org.
