The nearly 200-person cast of the Nibley Children’s Theatre production of ‘The Sister Wishes’ crowded the stage of Jessie Datwyler Amphiteatre for the show’s finale during Nibley Heritage Days in 2022.
NIBLEY – Rehearsals are set to begin on June 3 for the Nibley Children’s Theatre production of The Misfit Pirate.
“We are thrilled to come together as a community to perform this fun and uplifting play,” enthused Emily Rigby.
The Misfit Pirate is an original fantasy, written and directed by Rigby.
The play will be performed at 7 p.m. on June 15 and 16 in the Jessie Datwyler Amphitheatre in Anhder Park in Nibley.
Rigby explains that The Misfit Pirate follows Billy, a youngster trying to make his way in the cut-throat world of piracy. But Billy is afraid of heights, doesn’t know how to swim and hates the whole business of fighting and plundering.
So what’s a guy to do?
“This exciting play is set in the deep, blue sea,” Rigby adds, “complete with a plethora of pirates, magical mermaids, rabid rats, clickity-crabs and beautiful jellyfish.”
More than 240 Nibley children will be involved in rehearsing, performing and staging The Misfit Pirate.
The play will be the centerpiece of the Nibley Heritage Days celebration. That annual event is scheduled from June 10 to 17.
The year’s performances of The Misfit Pirate will also mark the 40th production of the Nibley Children’s Theatre, making it the longest running city-sponsored children’s theater in Utah.
Rigby explains that the 2023 production of the Nibley Children’s Theatre is being funded by generous contributions from Nibley City; Rocky Mountain Power; the Recreation, Arts, Parks and Zoos tax; and the Utah Department of Cultural and Community Engagement.
“I know that everyone will enjoy watching our amazing and talented kids performing in The Misfit Pirate,” Rigby says.
The production is free and open to the public.
