Charlene Wight Smith passed away peacefully on February 27, 2022, in Smithfield, Utah at age 92. She was born on February 25, 1930, in Twin Falls, Idaho, the daughter of Eldred Lorenzo Wight (Pete) and Athalia Wheatley.

Charlene lived in a variety of places including Logan and Ogden, Utah, graduating from Ogden High School; St. Ignatius, Montana; Pasco, Washington; Livermore, California (for 30+ years); Cedar Rapids, Iowa; and her final home in Brigham City, Utah in 1991.

Charlene married her sweetheart Heber Parley Smith, Jr. on June 23, 1948, in the Logan LDS Temple. They were married for over 73 years. They have eight wonderful children. While still raising her youngest children, Charlene returned to school at the Chabot College Pleasanton campus and graduated with her Associate Degree.

She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Charlene served in many capacities including as Ward Librarian, Cub Scout Leader, Teacher, and Visiting Teacher. She was an avid Genealogist and served in many family history callings. With her husband, Charlene served a mission to Raleigh, North Carolina, a second mission to Nauvoo, Illinois, and in the Ogden Temple for four years. They also served in the Maple Springs Assisted Living Branch and she was a member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers.

Charlene was kind and generous and had a big heart for charities. She was beloved by many for her time spent as a volunteer, giving of her time to tutoring, working in schools, in libraries, and volunteering with the Red Cross.

She loved to make quilts and to sew, making Christmas dresses annually for her many granddaughters. She enjoyed writing in her journal, reading, singing, gardening, and puzzles. Charlene had the ability to connect with people and loved all the friendships she has made throughout the years. She had several long-time pen-pals and looked forward to her letter-writing with them. She also encouraged and supported music, family history, missions, temple marriage, education, and reading the Book of Mormon with anyone she encountered, but especially her children.

Charlene is survived by her husband Parley, children: Sally Ann (Michael) Majestic, James Alan (Peggy) Smith, Laurie Lynn (David) Stevens, Parley Glen (Nola) Smith, Karen Wight (Don) Fairchild, Ranee Dawn (Jack) Berg, Martin John (Annette) Smith and Nanette Ellen (Scott) Wilson; 49 grandchildren, 81 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. She is also survived by her sister, Lorraine Hales.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Marion Demler, Elizabeth Gibson, and Janet Taylor; and a grandson, Logan Smith.

The family would like to thank the staff at Birch Creek Assisted Living for all their care.

Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, March 5, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at Myers Mortuary, 205 South 100 East, Brigham City, UT.

A viewing will be held on Friday from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. and on Saturday from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. both at Myers Mortuary.
