LOGAN — A 28-year-old California man has confessed to wanting to have sex with an undercover police officer, posing as a 13-year-old. Victor Manuel Davila was arrested a year ago after driving to a location to meet the supposed teenager and found police waiting to take him into custody.

According to court records, Davila appeared July 31 in Logan’s 1st District Court. He accepted a plea deal, pleading guilty to enticing a minor, a second-degree felony. As part of the agreement, prosecutors dismissed a remaining charge.

Davila began messaging a Logan City Police officer in August 2023. The officer was posing as a 13-year-old girl on a popular chat app.

Davila reportedly told the officer he was visiting Logan and looking for causal sex. After the officer explained they were underage, the defendant expressed trepidation but still wanted to meet up.

A time and place was arranged between Davila and the undercover officer. When the defendant showed up later at the designated spot, police apprehended and took him into custody without incident, court documents state.

Davila was in possession of a smartphone when arrested. He later allowed police to search it, where the chats with the undercover officer were located.

During questioning, Davila reportedly admitted to chatting and traveling to the rendezvous site for the purpose of meeting for sex. He claimed, though, he didn’t intend to follow through with it and wanted to be a “good Samaritan,” talking and educating the child, a probable cause statement read.

Davila is currently out of jail on $60,000 bail. He is scheduled to be sentenced Nov. 6, and could face up to 15 years in prison.
