Fairytale 5K

HYRUM — Community members in Hyrum are gearing up for fundraising event with a whimsical twist. Organized by the Friends of Lincoln Elementary, the event aims to raise funds for an accessible special-needs preschool and kindergarten playground at Lincoln Elementary School.

Scheduled for October 7th, the “Helping Playground Dreams Come True!” Fairytale 5k and Fun Run will take place at Salt Hollow Park in Hyrum at 3 p.m. Participants, including families, are encouraged to participate in costumes.

To add to the fun, fairytale characters such as Cinderella and Prince Charming will be stationed along the route to offer support and encouragement. Runners who manage to outpace the Big Bad Wolf will be eligible for a special prize.

The primary objective of this event is to raise $20,000 to construct a playground catering to children with disabilities. The playground will feature adaptive equipment, providing an inclusive play environment for students of all abilities.

“Being able to play on slides and monkey bars at school was something I definitely took for granted as a kid,” said Mountain Crest’s Benjamin Funk, one of the event organizers. “After meeting some of Lincoln’s special-needs students and seeing the playground they use, I hope we can give them something better.”

Support for the event comes from sponsors including Ridley’s Market, Mountain View Foot and Ankle Specialists, and the City of Hyrum.

Registration is open with fees set at $25 for the 5k and $10 for the Fun Run. Interested participants and donors can visit www.lincolnplayground.org. The Hyrum community invites all to join them in turning this fairytale vision into a reality, making playtime dreams come true for local children.
