LOGAN – The Cache Humane Society and the Utah Festival Opera & Musical Theatre have partnered to offer pairs of half-price tickets to the upcoming production of Cats at the Ellen Eccles Theatre.

All would-be theater-goers have to do to qualify for 50 percent off their tickets to Cats is adopt a cat or kitten from the local animal shelter during the musical’s run from now through Aug. 3.

Just to be fair to all our four-legged pets, however, the offer is also being extended to anyone who adopts a puppy or dog during the same time period.

With a musical score by Andrew Lloyd Webber, Cats is a sung-through musical based on the 1939 poetry collection entitled “Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats” by T.S. Elliot.

The musical tells the story of a tribe of cats and the night they must decide which of them will ascend to the Heavenside Layer and return with a new life.

The large cast musical will star Adrien Swenson as Grizabella. Ms. Swenson is familiar to local audiences, having been seen previously here in UFOMT productions of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat and in Elton John’s Aida.

Officials at Cache Humane say that all an adoptive family has to do is present its adoption code when calling or visiting the Utah Festival Box Office to receive half-off the regular ticket price.

The UFOMT box office is located at 59 South, 100 West in the Dansante Building. Its phone number is 435-750-0300.

The adoption fee for cats (six months and older) at Cache Humane is $60 and for kittens (less than six months old) is $75. The fee includes neuter/spay service for the animal, micro-chipping and normal vaccinations up to the date of adoption for cats and up to the first birthday for kittens.

The adoption fee for dogs (six months and older) at Cache Humane is $200 and for puppies (less than six months old) is $275. The fee includes neuter/spay service for the animal, micro-chipping and normal vaccinations up to the date of adoption for dogs and up to the first birthday for puppies.

The Cache Humane Society is located at 2370 West, 200 North in Logan. Shelter hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays and from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays.

Evening performances of Cats are slated for 7:30 p.m. on July 13, 15, 17, 19, 24 and 31. Matinee performances will be presented at 1 p.m. on July 12, 27 and Aug. 3.
