LOGAN — Representative Dan Johnson returned as a guest on KVNU’s For the People program last week.
Last January, Johnson was in the radio station lobby about to announce to program host Jason Williams that he would not be seeking re-election to another term in House District 3, when he had a medical emergency.
He recovered and returned to the Utah Legislature for his final session earlier this year and had quite the send-off and recognition from fellow lawmakers, including Johnson wearing a hoody and performing a quick dance routine with four others from the Barbie movie.
“This was to find out (that) I could do anything(laughs) I’ll try anything once, so that was really fun. They presented me with some spurs that were made especially for the 100th anniversary of Bryce National Park, and it was a really neat moment with a really nice ovation of people standing for that,” Johnson explained.
He said the next day they presented him with a United States flag that has flown over the Capitol. Also on the program was Cache County Executive David Zook who had some nice words for Johnson with whom he has worked closely.
“I always hear people say this about Dan, and I always say it too. Everyone always says that we wish we could become as great a leader as Dan is. We all say we wish we could be the kind of man Dan is, when we grow up, I think that says a lot for Dan. Everyone sees Dan and they say, ’Wow what a great man, what a great leader, I wish I could be as good as a leader as he is. I wish I could learn his way of treating people, of serving people,’” Zook said.
Johnson has endorsed River Heights Mayor Jason Thompson as his replacement in the race.
