CACHE COUNTY – During their regular meeting on June 10, the members of the Cache County Council approved the appointment of Joshua Barson as Director of Behavioral Health services in the Bear River Health Department (BRDH)
Barson was nominated by Jordan Mathis, the BRDHD director and quickly approved by a unanimous vote of the panel, with council member Keegan Garrity absent.
Mathis told council members that Barson is a licensed clinical social worker who has been working with BRHD for nearly four years, with most of that time spent in leadership roles.
Barson holds bachelor and master’s degrees in social work from Utah State University (2015) and the University of Utah (2017).
With more than 10,000 hours of therapeutic experience, Psychology Today reports that Barson specializes in the treatment of addiction, anxiety, depression and trauma, especially for youthful patients navigating college, missions or career changes.
His previous experience also includes service with Valley Behavioral Health and LDS Family Services.
Under the “Multi-County United Local Health Department Interlocal Agreement” approved by the Cache County Council last spring, BRHD now provides improved public health, mental health and substance abuse services for Cache, Box Elder and Rich counties.
Barson will assume his new role overseeing BRHD behavioral health services as soon as his appointment is also endorsed by council members in Box Elder and Rich counties.
