LOGAN – The Cache Valley Chamber of Commerce will host its annual Greater Cache Valley Economic and Business Summit on April 19 and 20.
“We are excited for an incredible line-up of keynote speakers, panel discussions and break-out sessions,” according to Jaime Andrus, the president and CEO of the Cache Valley Chamber of Commerce.
The annual gathering of local leaders to discuss the vision and growth of Cache Valley is expected to attract business and community leaders; members of city and county councils; mayors; city managers; planning commissioners; business consultants; educators, real estate professionals; landlords; builders; and bankers.
The first day of the event is slated at the Riverwoods Conference Center from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
A review of local conditions will feature comments from County Executive David Zook, Mayor Larry Jacobsen of Nibley and Paul Erickson of Cache Valley Bank from 8:15 to 9 a.m.
Regional conditions will be discussed from 9 to 10 a.m. by Ryan Starks, executive director of the Governor’s Office of Economic Opportunity; Ben Hart, executive director of the Utah Inland Port Authority; and Scott Cuthbertson, chief executive officer of the Economic Development Corporation of Utah.
From 10:15 to 11 a.m., the national and Utah economic outlook will be discussed by Phil Dean, the chief economist and public finance senior research fellow at the Kem C. Gardner Policy Institute at the University of Utah.
The summit will offer three break-out sessions from 11:15 to noon.
Those sessions will feature Cormac Murphy, managing director of investments at Adams Wealth Advisors, discussing the Federal Reserve and banking instability; Jeff Gilbert of the Cache Metropolitan Planning Organization discussing “Getting from Point A to Point B;” and Karina Brown and John Drew providing an update on the continuing work of the local Housing Crisis Task Force.
Following lunch, northern Utah’s economic situation will be analyzed by Michael Jeanfreau, the Department of Workforce Services’ Bear River and Wasatch Front North Regional Economist.
From 1:15 to 2 p.m., the additive value of women in the workplace will be discussed by Pat Jones, a former minority leader in the Utah Senate.
Local lawmakers will take center stage from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. to provide an update of the 2023 general session of the Utah Legislature. They will be Sen. Chris Wilson and Representatives Dan Johnson and Casey Snider.
Finally, Sharon Giles, human resources director for the Space Dynamics Laboratory at Utah State University, will discuss the status of the workforce from 3:30 to 4:15 p.m.
On April 20, the Greater Cache Valley Economic Summit will host tours of local businesses.
The first of two bus tours will depart from the Historic Cache County Courthouse at 8:15 a.m. enroute to SAE International, Juniper Systems and the Entrepreneurship Center at the Bridgerland Technical College.
The other tour bus will carry summit attendees to tour Electric Power Systems (EPS), RR Donnelley and Autonomous Solutions, Inc.
The tours will conclude at 12:30 p.m.
