BRIGHAM CITY — A Box Elder County Sheriff’s K-9 officer and her handler were recently recognized for their exceptional teamwork in scent detection.

According to a post on the sheriff’s office Facebook page, K-9 Azula and Deputy Allred received a perfect score in the Detection Dog Trials held in West Valley City on Saturday, Nov. 4.

Officials said that the duo competed in the timed competition against other K-9 teams from Utah and ultimately took home three ribbons: Diamond Place, First Place and Second Place.

The K-9s who competed were specially trained on explosive detection, drugs, human remains and bed bugs.

Following their victory, K-9 Azula and Deputy Allred qualified for the Dog Detection U.S. Championships and International Championships.
