LOGAN –As of Monday, some big changes have occurred in Logan City and Cache County as far as garbage, recycling and green waste pick-up. The city now only does pick ups in Logan and Providence.
Other cities have signed contracts with new waste companies, and you can find a map or a link on most city websites.
You can also check to see if your garbage day has changed in Logan at MyGarbageDay.loganutah.org.
“It is something that…we’re kind of on auto-pilot with our garbage day, right? People kind of know the time the truck comes, and they kind of know the day to put it out, and they know their recycling schedule. With all that changing, particularly we noticed today, a lot of people didn’t get their cans out in time. We’re emphasizing that make sure you put your can out before 7a.m., we want that can out. Because I guarantee you that it’s nothing like your collection was last week, even if your collection day or recycle day didn’t change,” she explained.
Malik said, though, the change has made collection pick-up more manageable for the city.
“Basically we went from maybe 40,000 some customers on cans down to somewhere in the neighborhood of 15 to 20,000 cans. So, it really necessitated just making sure that we had routes for our drivers to follow, which, obviously are very different than they were before. Because we weren’t in Logan every single day of the week previously, we had routes that were just outside of Logan, and kind of increasingly so with growth.”
With all the changes though, Malik said it’s important to note that everyone can still take in their household hazardous waste along with additional recycling options.
Also the green waste facility and the landfill is still open to everyone in the county. She does caution though, please completely cover your load.
“Particularly branches, I think people overestimate how heavy they are. They’re kind of springy, so you go over a bump and they just bounce right out. We ask that you cover, or just really make sure those loads are tied down, just because it is a road hazard. It can be really dangerous if a big branch comes flying out of a truck.”
