October 8, 1984 ~ April 8, 2023 (age 38)

Ben, Benjamin, or Bennie was born on October 8, 1984, to Stanford Hogan and Laurie Secrist in Logan, Utah. Ben died at home, moving from this life into eternal life on Saturday, April 8, 2023.

Ben lived an amazing life filled with achievement, adventure, and more peak experiences than most people even dream of. Ben attended Box Elder High School and Benjamin Franklin Academy. He enjoyed University classes, but he preferred the “the University of life”.

Ben has travelled with Mom in the United States and all over the world. When Ben was 14, we were travelling in Japan for a month, Mom bought him a camera so he could entertain himself. Ben found his first love, Photography, on that trip. Ben’s creativity and talent brought Ben a job as a photographer with the Ogden Standard Examiner while he was a Junior in high school. With this job, Ben realized he could write. During his Junior year, Ben won a national award for his writing and the Governor’s Choice Award for his Photography at the Utah All State High School Art Show in Springville. Ben’s photographs were displayed in galleries all over Utah.

Ben was introduced to his second love, Mountaineering, in Japan a year later. He climbed Mt. Fuji, got lost on top and was forced to spend the night on the mountain. As it got dark, Ben encountered some other climbers who offered him food and shelter for the night. In the morning, they took him down the wild side of Fuji-san. Since then; Ben has enjoyed ice climbing, rock climbing, and practicing with his crazy climbing wall in his basement stairwell.

Ben grew up helping his father, Stan, with Stan Hogan Construction. Ben enjoyed working alongside his dad running the heavy equipment. Ben also helped Stan clean and polish their historic 1959 Kenworth.

Stan and Ben would take the truck around Utah to parades and truck shows winning many trophies which Ben proudly displayed.

During his adult life, Ben was self-employed. He called his business Lightning Valley Photography. Ben was employed with our family business as product and event photographer and shipping manager. Ben was a creative artist making sage and crystal wands that are sold all over the world.

Ben loved to ski, kayak, ride wheelers, and fish and hunt! Ben was always sketching with a pencil and writing down his thoughts. Ben loved his home; he was a talented remodeler and landscaper. He enjoyed gardening and worked with his Grandparents at Secrist Gardens. Ben loved his Dogs, Max and Molly, his companions in adventure.

Ben was married to Day Chipman, they later divorced. Ben’s companion Becky Day and her four beautiful children brought joy into his life for a time.

Ben was deeply loved by many people in his life! He will be missed by his parents, Stanford and Lisa Hogan of Bear River City, and Laurie Secrist and Doug Tingey of St. Charles, Idaho and St. George, Utah.

Ben is survived by his siblings: Steve (Jerri Lynnann) Inman and Tyler (Denee) Steinmetz; Grandparents: Donrey and Nedra Secrist; 4 nieces and nephews, and a huge extended family of Uncles and Aunts, Cousins, and a few special friends who have become family.

The family would like to give thanks to Ben’s best friends, Cody Smith and Holly Stacie. We would like to thank his cousin Josh Cornwall for his constant encouragement and support. We would like to recognize his many cousins and friends who were truly there for Ben when things in life got really hard.

Ben sustained significant injuries in auto accidents when he was young. He suffered from chronic pain and struggled with addiction. He suffered with declining mental and physical health the past few years.

We are overjoyed that now Benjamin is healed and whole again, held in the loving arms of our Savior.

I’m certain he is loving life on the “other side” with his Grandparents Wawn and Erma Hogan and Sister, Roberta Ann (Robbie) Inman.
