Skiers and boarders waiting for opening day at Beaver Mountain in 2022.

LOGAN — It’s the news skiers and boarders have been waiting to hear: Beaver Mountain is opening Friday, Dec. 15, for the season. Recent snow storms have left the ski resort east of Cache Valley with over three feet of snow.

Cindy Allen, a spokesperson for the resort, confirmed Beaver Mountain will be opening this weekend for the 2023-24 season. Friday, lifts will begin running exclusively for season pass holders and then to everyone on Saturday.

It has been a busy offseason at Beaver Mountain as construction began on a new lodge. The building which isn’t expected to be completed until next fall will include a café, retail ski space, restrooms and a ski school area that will be separate from the rental shop.

A new bathroom has been built at the north end of the resort.

Allen said the staff at Beaver Mountain are excited to have all of their lifts in operation for the opening weekend. That includes the Lil Beaver, Harry’s Dream and Face lifts from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and the Marge’s Triple Lift from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The Big and Little Eezy (surface lifts) will also be running.

Beaver Mountain is now the longest continuously-run family-owned mountain resort in the United States. It started in 1939 when Harold Seeholzer decided to put a ski tow up the mountain. It consisted of a DeSoto car motor and a steel cable, and the operator had to climb the mountain every morning to start it.
