Alejandro Mejia-Rodriguez with his grandson Isayah J Mejia-Rodriguez.

GARDEN CITY – Twenty month-old Isayah J. Mejia-Rodriguez was orphaned on March 29 when the car he was in with his father Dakota Andres Mejia and mother Jordan Johanna Rose Erickson was struck by another vehicle in Logan Canyon. Mejia and Erickson died on impact and Erickson’s sister, Jericka, died after being transported to Logan Regional Hospital. A fourth victim, Bryson Calixto, was transported to Ogden’s McKay Dee Hospital in serious condition.

Isayah was the only passenger secured in the vehicle. The Bear Lake community mourns the loss of those three young adults and are now trying to support surviving family members.

A Gracious Givers Fundraising auction is coming up on May 6 from 6-8 p.m. at Sunrise Resort and Events Center, located at 865 Harbor Village Drive in Garden City.

With Isayah’s parents gone, his grandparents will assume the responsibility of raising the 20 month-old. Members of the Bear Lake community have organized the fundraiser to assist the grandparents.

Some of the items involved at the auction include ski passes to Beaver Mountain, passes to Pickleville Playhouse, horseback riding lessons, passes to Bear Lake area activities along with rentals and more.

A preview of the auction items will begin at 5 p.m. Finger food will also be served. If you can’t attend in person, you can login and bid at bearlaketech.com/auction/.

The family is also trying to raise money for a shared headstone for those who died in the car accident. Details for how to donate are available through GoFundMe.
