LOGAN – Logan Parks & Recreation officials here will host their first ever Broomsticks & Boogie Witches Dance and Halloween Festival on Saturday, Oct. 25.

The free event with activities galore is scheduled from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Carol and Jim Laub Plaza on Main Street in Logan.

The highlight of that festival will be the annual Witches Dance, a Logan tradition.

With dozens of local women dressed as high-fashion sorceresses, the annual Witches Dance began several years ago in the residential neighborhood on West Center Street.

That tradition began after local women saw a viral video of a similar event in Germany.

In 2021, city officials coaxed the witches to move that event a few blocks east to become a part of the Halloween celebration in the downtown area.

The witch troupe will dance at 6:30, 7 and 7:30 p.m. during the Halloween festival.

The spooky sorceresses will also be available for photos with area youngsters from 5:30 to 6:15 p.m.

Also on the agenda for the Halloween Festival will be live music by the band “Heywire” from 5 to 7 p.m.; food trucks from 5 to 8 p.m.; and craft events from 5 to 8 p.m.

Anderson’s Seed & Garden will sponsor its annual Cemetery Scramble from 5 to 8 p.m.

A Decorated Pumpkin contest will take place at 6:15 p.m., with check-in at 5 p.m. Local Youngster are advised to BYODP – bring your own decorated pumpkin.

A Halloween costume contest for youngsters will be held at 5:45 p.m.

The evening will close with the free movie Monster House to be presented at 8 p.m. in the Utah Theatre at 18 West Center Street in Logan.

The Carol and Jim Laub Plaza is located at 55 North Main Street in downtown Logan.
