BOX ELDER COUNTY — An Alabama man reportedly died Friday after base jumping near Willard Peak.
According to the Box Elder County Sheriff’s Office, the man was an experienced base jumper, his friend told deputies.
At approximately 2 p.m. Sept. 27, an individual reported that his friend failed to provide an expected update after base jumping in a wingsuit.
The Weber County Sheriff’s Office was contacted and helicopters were requested to assist with the search.
The Box Elder County Sheriff’s Office said the friend provided them with crucial information regarding potential jump locations and flight routes, and a coordinated effort to find the man began.
Almost two hours after the initial report, the Department of Public Safety helicopter found the man approximately one mile northwest of Willard Peak and in extremely rugged terrain.
The Box Elder County Sheriff’s Office said the victim identified as Jonathan Bizilia, 27, had crashed and died.
