LOGAN — State fire officials will lift Stage 1 fire restrictions in Cache County beginning early Sunday morning, though local authorities warn that wildfire season is far from over.
The decision by the Utah Division of Forestry, Fire and State Lands takes effect at 12:01 a.m. on Sept. 20. Officials cited improving environmental conditions for easing the rules, which had restricted open burning and certain outdoor activities across the region.
Despite the policy change, Cache County Fire Chief Brady George cautions that dry vegetation across Cache Valley continues to pose a significant hazard. Fire can still ignite quickly and spread rapidly under typical late-summer weather conditions.
“The removal of Stage 1 restrictions reflects improving conditions, but it should not be interpreted as the end of wildfire season,” Cache County Fire Chief Brady L. George said. “Continued caution and responsible behavior will help protect our communities, firefighters, and natural resources.”
Fire officials are asking residents and visitors to maintain safety precautions when using campfires, fireworks, outdoor cutting or welding equipment, or operating vehicles near dry brush.
George recommends several key safety measures for outdoor activities:

Fully extinguish all campfires and never leave them unattended.

Secure trailer chains and maintain vehicles to prevent sparks along roadways.

Keep water and a shovel on hand when conducting permitted outdoor burning.

Avoid operating spark-producing equipment near dry grass or vegetation.
Additionally, officials urge the public to check local municipal ordinances and burning permits before lighting any outdoor fires, and to report any unattended or uncontrolled flames immediately to emergency responders.
