CACHE COUNTY – Eight of Cache Valley’s communities will hold primary elections on Tuesday, Aug. 12.

Those municipalities are Hyrum, Lewiston, Logan, North Logan, Providence, Richmond, Smithfield and Wellsville, according to County Clerk Bryson Behm.

Those municipal primaries will be administered by the Cache County Clerk Office. All voting in those cities will be by mail-in ballots, which will begin going out to registered Cache County residents on Tuesday, July 22.

Under state law, the deadline for voter registration to cast a ballot in the municipal primaries is Friday, Aug. 1.

In Hyrum, the positions in contention during the upcoming primary election are for mayor and city council seats. In the running for Hyrum mayor are incumbent Stephanie Miller, Steve J. miller and Shara Toone. Competing for two seats on the Hyrum City Council are Joshua Kyle Cannon, Jared Clawson, Nalyn Nelson, Paul James, Rebecca Foulger and Kevin J. Petersen.

In Lewiston, the crowded field of candidates for two seats on the municipal council includes Corynn Annette Arehart, John H. Morrison, Kirsti A. Kjome, Kameron Boyd Little, Jason Trexler, Shantel Kaye Poyner, Brooke Hyer, Simone Holyoak and Jill Hansen Dent.

In the running for mayor of Logan are five candidates – Jerritt T. Bodrero, Lewis Roesberry, Alanna Nafziger, Mark Anderson and Matthew Paul Fatuesi. A total of nine candidates have queue up for two seats on the Logan Municipal Council – Greg Brooks, Gail B. Yost, Joshua Michael Molitor, Brian Seasons, Katie Lee-Koven, Ernesto Lopéz, Reilly Samuel Fatuesi, Kristi Fatuesi and Melissa Dahle.

In North Logan, candidates competing for two seat on the city council include Tim McCabe, Emily Schmidt, Holly A. Gunther, Kirk K. Larsen and Larry N. Hepworth.

In Providence, the candidate seeking two seats on the city council include Scott W. Campbell, Nate Worthen, Jeff Carlos Nebeker, Ladd T. Kennington and Jeanell Sealy.

Only one seat on the city council is up for grabs in Richmond, where Kayleen Bell, Chase Westwood and Fran Schumann are in contention.

Primary balloting will also narrow the field of candidates in Smithfield, where two seats on the city council are in contention. The candidate there are Blaine Richard Nuttall, Chris Olsen, Lizette Villegas, Sue Hyer and Jay D. Downs.

Finally, four candidates are competing for the post of mayor in Wellsville. They are Kaylene Ames, Perry N. Maughan, Carl Leatham and Chad Bankhead Lindley.

Under a recent change to state law, postmarks will no longer be accepted as proof of timely ballot submission. For a ballot to be counted in the upcoming primary election, it must have arrived at the Cache County Clerk’s Office not later than 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 12.

Early in-person voting will be available daily from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Cache County Administration Building from Tuesday, Aug. 5 to Friday, Aug. 9.

Voters can also return their mail-in ballots at officials drop box location throughout the county. A list of drop box location is available at https://www.cachecounty.gov/elections

In-person voting on Tuesday, Aug. 12 will be at the Cache County Event Center at 490 South, 500 West in Logan.

The County Clerk’s Office is located in the Cache County Administration Building at 179 North Main Street in Logan.
