LOGAN — A 20-year-old Newton man has been sentenced to jail for downloading child pornography. Rayden J. Sazama was ordered to turn himself into the Cache County Jail by Dec. 18, after telling the court he had made the “greatest mistake of his life.”
Sazama was sentenced Dec. 11 in Logan’s 1st District Court. He previously pleaded guilty to two counts of sexual exploitation of a minor, amended to a third-degree felony.
Sazama was arrested in November 2023 after Cache County Sheriff’s deputies tracked child pornography to his electronic device. The material was reportedly downloaded around August 2023.
During Sazama’s sentencing hearing, defense attorney Shannon Demler said his client was a good person who made a big mistake in judgement. He explained how his client had no criminal history and immediately began counselling after being arrested.
Sazama said getting arrested impacted every relationship in his life. He promised to change, stating that he never wanted to commit another mistake in his life.
Judge Brian Cannell said Sazama’s mistake was criminal activity that turned young children into victims. He sentenced the defendant to 60 days in jail, giving him work and treatment release, and a $500 fine.
