LOGAN — A section of Logan Canyon, US-89 was closed after multiple slide-offs occurred Thursday morning, Dec. 7. The accidents occurred after a storm brought a mix of rain and snow through the area.
According to emergency radio traffic, the first slide-off involved a semi-truck near Rick Springs. The truck went off the road and rolled onto its side in a ditch.
Emergency crews reported the driver of the truck was uninjured. The semi-trailer was loaded with approximately 40,000 lbs. of processed meat.
As troopers responded to rollover, they came across four other vehicle slide-offs near the Chokecherry area. One of the cars reportedly went into the river.
The canyon was closed to allow space for multiple tow trucks to respond and assist the stranded motorists.
Troopers reported road conditions were extremely icy at the time.
Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Jason Kendrick said all of the accidents were minor and no injuries were reported.
It took crews more than half the day to unload the semi-trailer and tow the truck out of the canyon. The highway was reopened at 3 p.m.
UDOT officials had warned motorists to slow down and drive for the winter conditions.
