Logan City Police Chief Jeff Simmons
LOGAN — The Logan City Police Department has a new chief. Jeff Simmons was announced as the new police chief Friday, replacing Chief Gary Jensen, who retired in May.
Logan Mayor Holly Daines said Simmons has more than 26 years of public safety experience and training with the Logan City Police Department. He has been serving as the LCPD Assistant Chief since November 2019.
Simmons’ appointment comes after a lengthy search for a new chief, conducted by Mayor Daines and members of the Logan Municipal Council. Applicants included some of the top law enforcement officers from inside the department and neighboring agencies.
Simmons’ education includes a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from Weber State University and a master’s degree in Human Resource Management from Utah State University. He also graduated from a 10-week program at the FBI Law Enforcement National Academy in Quantico, Virginia.
Mayor Daines said a formal ratification and oath of office will take place at the City Council meeting on July 18 at 5:30 p.m.
