December 19, 1945 – June 24, 2023 (age 77)
Harold David Ure passed away June 24, 2023, in Malad, Idaho. He was born on December 19, 1945, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Harold Ure and Elizabeth (Betty Lou) Ure. He was the last one living in his immediate family. He was the eldest of 6 children, Richard, Shirley, Marilyn, William and Clay.
Harold served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints from 1965-1967 in what was called at the time, Central States Mission, which included parts of Missouri, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Kansas, and Nebraska. Harold loved the gospel of Jesus Christ and stayed a faithful member until he left this life. He loved serving the Lord and sharing the gospel.
After his mission he studied at what was called at the time, Dixie College, in Southern Utah. He studied drafting and art. His drafting was so good that he was asked to do a campus drawing of the college. After a year he transferred to the University of Utah, and shortly after, he received his draft notice. He chose to go enroll in the army instead of being drafted and after sending his drawings he did in high school to DC; he was able to work at the Washington DC headquarters of ASA as a draftsman, head of the drafting department and technical illustrator. He then served in the Vietnam War for 16 months at the Vietnamese GPS Headquarters where he did briefing charts. He was put in for a bronze star for his impeccable work.
He drew a picture of Jesus Christ while serving in the Vietnam war, which became so popular he had to start mass producing it. He was an incredible artist and loved drawing until later in his life when neuropathy started setting in from exposure to agent orange in the Vietnam War, which made it too painful to draw.
Harold met Cynthia Smith on April 4th, 1973 while working at Southeast furniture in Sugarhouse, Utah. They later married on September 7, 1973 in the Salt Lake Temple. They were married for 49 years before Cynthia passed away on December 31, 2022. His son James Darin Ure and son Gregory Scott Ure (stillborn) also proceeded him in death, as well as his parents and all his siblings.
Harold and his wife, Cynthia, had six children. He is survived by some of his children, Julie Petersen (Matthew), Robyn Richins, Trisha Li Mura (Leonardo) and Crystal (David) Clark. He is also survived by his 15 grandchildren.
Harold and Cynthia moved around a lot as Harold went through several layoffs. They eventually settled down in Downey, Idaho after their kids were grown. Harold and Cynthia loved serving in the temple. They served in the temple for 15 years, most of it being at the Jordan River Temple in Utah. Harold loved reading the scriptures and having gospel discussions. We know he is continuing the Lord’s work on the other side.
Harold will be missed, but we know that he is reunited with his wife, his Angel as he called her, which is what he has wanted every single day since Cynthia passed away almost six months ago. His heartache and physical pain are now over, and for this, we are grateful he has passed from this earthly life.
Funeral services will be held Thursday June 29 at 11:00 with a viewing prior from 10:00-10:45 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints church building, 310 E Center St. Downey, Idaho 83234.
