RIVERSIDE, Utah — Two people were injured after a pickup truck rear-ended a semi-truck at a high rate of speed on Interstate 15 in Box Elder County, authorities said.
According to the Garland Fire Department, shortly after 11 a.m., Weber Area Dispatch received multiple 911 calls reporting the collision near mile marker 386, west of Riverside. Initial emergency reports indicated the crash left two occupants injured, with one person trapped inside the vehicle.
Fire officials said Engine 241 and Chief 241 were dispatched to the scene specifically to provide heavy extrication. However, upon arrival, responding crews discovered the pinned occupant had already been successfully freed from the wreckage.
Garland Fire Department paramedics remained at the crash site to assist on-scene ambulance personnel with treating the patients. The exact conditions of the two injured occupants were not immediately disclosed.
The incident required a large, multi-agency response. The Garland Fire Department expressed gratitude for the coordinated efforts of several local agencies, including the Fielding, Plymouth and Portage fire departments. The Tremonton-Garland Police Department and the Box Elder County Sheriff’s Office also provided assistance.
The Utah Highway Patrol is currently leading the investigation into the exact cause of the crash.
