CARIBOU COUNTY, Idaho — An 18-year-old Pocatello man died after jumping into the Bear River and failing to resurface, according to law enforcement. The drowning was reported Saturday at about 1:56 p.m. at the Last Chance Flume, north of Grace.

According to the Caribou County Sheriff’s Office, Kameron Aden Bowers was with a group of friends when he jumped into the Bear River from the Flume. Witnesses at the scene told deputies he had gone underwater but never surfaced.

The Caribou County Sheriff’s Office, Caribou County EMS and Caribou County Search and Rescue responded to the scene. The Bear Lake County Sheriff’s Office was also dispatched to the river to provide assistance with their dive team.

Deputies report that at 8:20 p.m., the victim’s body was located. The Caribou County Coroner’s Office later released the name of the drowning victim, after family members were notified.

The Last Chance Lane was closed for six hours while the search operation was in process.

In a statement, the sheriff’s office expressed appreciation to the many professional responders from Caribou County, Bear Lake County, Idaho State Police and the volunteers who assisted at the scene.

“Our condolences go out to the family and friends of the victim during this difficult time,” the statement concluded.
