Cache County is one of Utah’s counties considered at medium risk of COVID-19 transmission, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The CDC said no county in Utah is at high risk so it has not called for mask mandates anywhere in Utah.

The Utah Department of Health’s (UDOH) week-ending COVID report Friday lists 261 new coronavirus cases, the eighth straight day of 500 or fewer new cases.

Eleven new COVID deaths include a Cache County woman between 65-84 years of age who was not hospitalized at the time of death.

There have now been 924,248 positive cases since the start of the pandemic and 4,453 COVID deaths, including 226 in northern Utah.

In the last 28 days people who are unvaccinated are at 5.1 times greater risk of dying from COVID-19, 2.4 times greater risk of being hospitalized due to COVID-19 and 1.9 times greater risk of testing positive for COVID-19 than vaccinated people.

School-aged children account for 35 of today’s newly announced cases. There are 17 cases in children ages 5-10, seven cases in children ages 11-13 and 11 cases in children ages 14-17 since Thursday.

As of Friday there are 287 Utahns in hospitals with COVID-19, 12 fewer than Thursday. There are 66 patients in intensive care, two more than on Thursday. There have been 33,421 hospitalizations in Utah the last 24 months.

More than 61 percent of Utah’s population — 1.98 million — have been fully vaccinated. There were 2,477 people vaccinated since Thursday and over 4.95 million vaccines have been administered since the start of the pandemic.

With 3,258 Utahns tested since Thursday over 4.9 million people have been tested and just over 9.2 million total tests have been administered since the outbreak.

Utah’s new rolling seven-day average for positive tests has dwindled to 337 a day. The new seven-day rolling average for percent positivity of “people over people” is 11.9 percent plus the rolling seven-day average for percent positivity of “tests over tests” is 7.3 percent.

Idaho’s Friday COVID update indicates 4,788 coronavirus deaths and the new total of confirmed COVID-19 cases is 432,483 statewide. New case counts in the three southeast Idaho counties include 2,329 total positive cases in Franklin County, 905 in Bear Lake County and 795 in Oneida County.
