LOGAN, Utah – Utah State graduate quarterback Logan Bonner has been named to the 2022 Maxwell Award Watch List.

The Maxwell Award is presented annually by the Maxwell Football Club to America’s College Player of the Year. Bonner is one of four Mountain West players, including one of two MW quarterbacks, named to the 85-player list.

Bonner set five single-season school records during the 2021 season with 3,628 passing yards, 36 touchdown passes, four touchdown passes in three-straight games, four touchdown passes in six games in a season and 2.57 touchdown passes per game.

On the season, Bonner was 263-of-429 (.613) passing to rank fourth in school history in completions, sixth in attempts and seventh in completion percentage. He also had 3,694 yards of total offense to rank as the second-most in school history.

Bonner’s 36 touchdown passes a year ago are tied for the fourth-most in a single season in Mountain West history and the seventh-most in school history for a career. Five of those TD passes came in the Aggies’ 35-10 win at New Mexico, tying the single-game school record.

In helping lead Utah State to its first-ever Mountain West title with a dominating 46-13 victory at No. 19 San Diego State, Bonner set championship game records for most passing touchdowns (4) and most touchdowns responsible for (4).

Bonner was named the offensive MVP of the MW championship game after completing 29-of-42 passes for 318 yards and those four TDs, setting season highs in both completions and attempts.

The 6-foot-1, 230-pound native of Rowlett, Texas, is also a preseason second-team all-Mountain West selection by both Athlon Sports and Phil Steele.

Established in 1937, the Maxwell Award is named in honor of Robert W. “Tiny” Maxwell for his extensive contributions to the game of football as a player, sportswriter and official.

Semifinalists will be announced on Nov. 1, while the three finalists will be revealed on Nov. 22. The winner will be announced Dec. 8 as part of the ESPN Home Depot College Football Awards Show.

Utah State opens the 2022 season at home against Connecticut on Saturday, Aug. 27. The game will be televised nationally on Fox Sports 1, at 2 p.m.
