SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Utah ski resorts recorded a 10-year-high for visitors this season, likely fueled by good early season snow and buzz created by Vail Resort’s merging of two well-known ski areas into one mega resort.
Ski Utah President Nathan Rafferty said Thursday that the nearly 4.5 million skier visits in the 2015-2016 season surpassed the previous high of 4.2 million in 2007-2008.
Rafferty attributes the increase to a host of multi-million dollar improvements made at Utah ski areas that brought attention. The highlight of the investments was the opening of the merged Park City Mountain Resort, which includes the ski area formerly known as the Canyons Resort.
Colorado is set to announce its final numbers next week, but visits were up at the neighboring state’s resorts through February.
