More than 90 percent of Utahns have been vaccinated against measles and are highly protected against the infection.
But Tuesday the state’s public health officials became aware of two more Utah residents diagnosed with the disease. They are not linked to each other or to the person who was diagnosed with measles last week. Both of the new diagnosed cases are unvaccinated.
One of the new cases is a Utah County resident while the other is from the southwest health district.
Investigations are ongoing in an attempt to identify locations where exposures may have occurred. Usually seven to 14 days after exposure, symptoms will appear.
The most effective prevention against the measles is vaccination; The measles-mumps-rubella (MMR) vaccine is 97 percent effective against measles when the person gets two doses.
